Peter Thiel on Bitcoin
Oops! There is nothing here yet.
Peter Thiel, one of the co-founders of PayPal, has previously acknowledged that the primary intent behind creating PayPal was to establish a novel online currency. During his presentation at the 2021 Buttonwood Gathering, Thiel elaborated on the genesis of PayPal and provided insights into his perspective on Bitcoin. "PayPal had these goals of creating a new currency. We failed at that, and we just created a new payment system. I think Bitcoin has succeeded on the level of a new currency, but the payment system is somewhat lacking. It's very hard to use, and that's the big challenge on the Bitcoin side."
In 2018, Founders Fund, led by Peter Thiel, made a substantial investment of millions of dollars in Bitcoin. Thiel expressed his perspective on Bitcoin, emphasizing its often underestimated value and drawing parallels between the digital currency and gold. "If bitcoin ends up being the cyber-equivalent of gold it has great potential left."
